El Cantarito in Michigan City

Just visiting here from South Carolina and found this incedible place. I had the steak and cheese tacos and they were delicious beyond words. The restaurant is clean and the staff is very friendly. I am quite an avid Mexican food eater and this restaurant is the best I've had. My sons had the taco trio and they echo my sentiments. Would give 10 stars if I could

Delicious, authentic Mexican cuisine. The ceviche is amazing! Not many places offer it so give it a try.

Service was outstanding! Loved the decor. Our food was fantastic and a great value for the money. We always try and find a good Mexican restaurant on our vacations and this one was a definite hit. Will definitely return when we’re back in the area.

First off the margaritas come in a freaking schooner. That's great! The service is great. The food quality, taste and portion sizes are right where they should be. I will be back.

Needed more sour scream. Was pleasantly surprised by the addition chips and salsa in my meal. A must go to place.

Valentine’s Day crowded, didn’t think we would get a table .... we were seated quickly.our bartender (Kevin) took or order had an amazing platter (Jalisco) &(Alambre) excellent!!!!! Service , and food were amazing!!! Wife and I both enjoyed it !!!!!!!!

What a find! Service is great. The food is freshly prepared. I'll be back. The spicy mango margarita is outstanding. The carnitas is flavorful and served with everything you need. The portions are large. The fajitas were cooked to perfection. I'll be back.

Their horchata is outstanding beyond belief which is hard to find to be honest. I love the salsa they use with chips it's not all watered down. Very clean environment and friendly well mannered employees at this establishment. The taco trio I ordered was cooked to perfection.

Best food, helpful staff, regularly excellent atmosphere. They charge reasonable rates and the food quality is very good. Keep it up.

Food was excellent! Celebrated my daughter's birthday here, they sang and she wore a sombrero... Lots of fun! Waitress was really good too, very accommodating for the 9 of us!

The margaritas are on special $5 plus $1 for flavor: pomegranate, peach, strawberry....Yummy 😋. Two drinks and you leave with a wonderful mood, I promise! The food is always good. Try the queso. The salsa is made fresh and tastes so good.

Previous visits here were very good but was disappointed last evening. First, the heat needed to be turned up and music turned down. So loud we couldn't have conversation easily. I had a taco salad and the tortilla bowl was dark brown and tasted strongly of old oil. Others had fajitas and the steak was chewy and the dish was overloaded with green peppers. I invited my friends and told them how good El Cantarito is but was disappointed and embarrassed. It was their first time there and not sure they would go back.

The best Mexican restaurant in the area and trust me I have tried them all! Great food and good service every time we visit. If you're in N.W. Indiana and craving authentic food, it would be wise to go here!

Much better service than expected, it was truly excellent. Best Mexican food I've had in a while. We had a party of 13 and everyone was taken care of wonderfully. Mango margaritas were definitely a hit. Will definitely come back when we're back in Indiana.

They have the BEST real fruit raspberry margaritas!! And you seriously only need one, and will probably have to share it at that.Service is almost always phenomenal. The first time I went there I had an amazing waiter who somehow memorized my exact order even though it had been a couple months since I had been in. Sadly haven't seen him in a while. But still great food. I recommend the tortas!!!

Great restaurant, food was very good, the service was also great and the restaurant was very clean.

Well for Mexican food it was so so it would be better if the jalapeno was fresh and grilled for a more authentic taste food was warm though they did try to make it up with a free dessert the tamal was exceptionally great, I visit MC often but will probably not eat here again.

This is the classiest Mexican joint in the area. Wonderful and accommodating staff. Food is top notch. I recommend the steak fajitas!

I've never been disappointed here. They've got great and inexpensive drinks ($5 margaritas every day) as well as food specials. My boyfriend and I share the fajita dinner and it always fills the both of us on top of the free chips and salsa!

I like this place. Food taste good, service is good, they give you a good amount of food. I get full before finishing every time which I like, usually I don't get full.

Stopped here on the way home to Michigan from Iowa. Friendly, fast service, good prices and we loved the carnitas! We will stop again when we make the same trip.

First time here. My wife and I had the fajitas for 2. Very good. We both had enough left over for lunch the next day. Good prices.

Went back after a year. Loved it before the new menu and all the changes. Didn't like what I had ( enchiladas). Way too dry. Not as good as it used to be foodwise. Still a nice place inside and great service.

More texmex than authentic but I eat there quite a bit. I travel about a half an hour to get there and never been disappointed. Staff is great and those tasty poppers are the best

Pretty good! Not expecting much. Mexican food north o the Mason Dixon is usually lacking. This joint is inviting enough. Was a chill atmosphere, Christmas tree and holiday deco was pretty and welcoming. The salsa... eh. Really bland, watery. Pretty sure the salsa was from a jar, the chips from a grocery store bag. I don't remember the name of the dish I ordered. When it arrived it was steak, tomatoes, onions and poblanos grilled with flour tortillas and rice. It was excellent! The peppers gave it that spicy kick and the steak was cooked perfectly, great quality. Not greasy or grisly, tender and well seasoned. My husband liked his quesadillas. The guacamole was pretty good. My daughter ordered the molten chocolate cake for dessert and it was yummy as well. Would like to return- soon!
